Public Cloud Services Gain Prominence in Enterprise Adoption
Public cloud infrastructures are becoming the backbone of enterprise computing systems, according to a new Forrester analysis. A remarkable 94% of the 2,000 enterprise cloud decision-makers surveyed have already embraced or are planning to adopt public cloud services. Closely trailing this trend are internal private and hosted private clouds, with adoption rates of 93% and 90%, respectively. Enterprises aren’t stopping there; a high priority is also being placed on cloud-native versions of security, storage, logging/monitoring, and networking technologies, along with a significant migration towards cloud-native containers and Kubernetes applications. Forrester’s principal analyst Lee Sustar notes that cloud technology is no longer an option but the standard within the enterprise arena, reinforcing its critical role across various business operations.
Ransomware Investors Potentially Target Finance and Legal Sectors
Ransomware attacks are showing signs of evolving beyond their conventional technical tactics as cybercriminals seek new methods to leverage pressure on their targets. Cybersecurity firm Sophos discovered an unusual call for specialists in “Analysis of financial and legal vulnerabilities for negotiations,” hinting at an emerging strategy where ransomware groups recruit financial and legal experts to exploit non-technical vulnerabilities. In the face of failed negotiations, these experts may be tasked with gathering intelligence for potential sale to competitors. According to Sophos’ director and global field CTO Chester Wisniewski, such a move represents an escalated attempt to coerce rapid and pressured decisions from victims, identifying a worrisome trend that could complicate the already strenuous challenge of rebounding from ransomware assaults.
